What do you want for Christmas? A guitar, of which you can use to practice in preparation to be a guitarist in your CG? What about a trip to Italy, your dream nation? Or a new sofa set to replace your seven-year old vinyl set. God didn’t wait for us to tell Him what we wanted; He gave us what He thought was the best. He gave us His Son, born as a human child.

The gift meets our deep-felt and real needs.

Firstly, this frail child taught us the principle of humility. Jesus taught, “… unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 18:3)

Secondly, the lovely picture of the child spoke of God’s approachability. He ouched the untouchables, healed the broken-hearted and loved the despised. He came to show men the way to God.

Finally, above all, the gift was the fulfillment of the promise God made in the Garden of Eden (see Gen 3:15); that one day a human child will crush the head of the devil. Man’s greatest enemy has been destroyed. No more fear of death for those who put their trust in Jesus, because of His finished work on the cross.

This Christmas, embrace God’s precious gift, and look for opportunities to pass on this hope.
